Plrease remember that drivers parking in Durham County Council owned car parks or street meters can only pay for parking via cash or card or the PayByPhone app.

Durham County Council have put out advice for motorists who choose to park in its on and off-street parking places after QR codes started to pop up on the side of pay machines in car parks.

Do not use the QR codes or scan them and for those who do see the QR codes on the machines. Please report them to the council if you see them..

A spokesperson for Durham County Council said: "QR codes have been left in council car parks or parking places as an option to pay for parking. Our car parks DO NOT have any on or off street parking place that is payable by QR code.You should only make payment using the payment machine (cash or card) or through the PayByPhone app. If you witness a QR code in any of our car parks or parking place, please Contact Parking Services by calling 03000 263 985 or emailing [email protected]."
